Overview

Gluten Free San Pietro is a quiet haven for those seeking authentic, gluten-free Italian cuisine in the heart of Rome. Nestled on Via Bonifacio VIII, just steps away from the Vatican, this small and intimate restaurant offers a unique dining experience that feels more like a warm invitation into a Roman home than a commercial eatery.

The restaurant’s charm lies in its focused menu and thoughtful approach to dietary needs. Standout dishes such as the Crespelle Alla Boscaiola and the signature Tiramisú showcase the kitchen’s skill in transforming traditional Italian favorites into gluten-free delights without losing their heart and soul. The pasta dishes — including spaghetti carbonara and bolognese — come highly recommended for their rich flavors and meticulously sourced ingredients.

Space at Gluten Free San Pietro is limited, with only about eight small tables, making it an ideal spot for couples, small groups, and visitors looking for a quiet meal away from crowded tourist hubs. The setting echoes a cozy, understated atmosphere accented by tasteful background music, creating a calming dining environment amid the bustling city.

The owner and chef Mario’s attentiveness stands out. Guests often mention his warmth and willingness to accommodate special dietary requests, as seen when he crafted a custom dish for a diner avoiding both gluten and cow’s milk. This personalized touch, coupled with generous portions, reinforces the feeling of genuine hospitality and care.

For travelers with gluten sensitivities or those simply seeking a truly authentic Roman meal with a gluten-free focus, Gluten Free San Pietro is a refreshing and reliable choice. The experience extends beyond just food, blending cultural appreciation with culinary excellence in a neighborhood rich with spiritual and historical significance. A visit here is not just a meal—it’s a moment of calm and connection in the eternal city.

If your itinerary brings you near the Vatican, this hidden gem invites you to slow down, savor each bite, and embrace a gluten-free taste of Rome crafted with passion and respect for tradition.

A small and cozy place with a warm, unique atmosphere. Located in a quiet, non-touristy crowded area. Very fair prices. The food is 100% gluten-free and delicious, and the owner is friendly and welcoming. A wonderful cultural and culinary experience.”

This place was great. It's small on the inside, with only about 8 tables for two that can be rearranged to accomodate larger groups. The food was delicious. I had the spaghetti carbonara and my wife had the spaghetti bolognese. I don't have photos because I was hungry and I ate mine too quickly. The tiramisu was outstanding and paired well with em espresso. This place is close to the Vatican - don't miss it if you have someone in your party with a gluten sensitivity.

Everything is gluten-free, and utterly delicious! The owner is incredibly accommodating and warm-hearted, and practically designed a dish for me on the spot to incorporate my dietary limitations (no gluten, no cow’s milk), and I had a delicious salmon/sheep’s cheese/ pasta meal. The portions were extremely generous - even so, my children finished their plates in no time because the food tasted so good. Much better value than anywhere else we ate in Rome. It is a simple and small place, but feels like home. We will definitely go back next time.

Gluten Free is a hidden treasure very close to the Vatican. Chef Mario is attentive, kind, and generous. It's a place to rest from your journey, slow down, calm down, and heal from the hustle and bustle of a cosmopolitan city like the beautiful and eternal Rome. The service is attentive, and the chef welcomes us like a host in his own home. The background music is wonderful and demonstrates Chef Mario's excellent taste. Don't be in a hurry, as he serves everyone in order of arrival after preparing the dishes for previous customers; therefore, your dish is made exclusively and with care! I believe that very soon this treasure will be discovered and shared with all romans and pilgrims. In this spiritual neighborhood of the Vatican, Gluten Free serves us food and a genuinely Roman spiritual gastronomic experience! Come!!!

Excellent! A hidden gem. A small restaurant hidden in a sideway to the main street. Had a spaghetti and a tiramisu which both were really good and ingredients were top notch quality. Could eat here every day, really friendly owner/chef too.

THIS IS THE BEST RESTAURANT WE ATE AT IN ALL OF ITALY OVER THE SPAN OF 8 DAYS AND 3 CITIES! This restaurant is 100% gluten free with an EXTENSIVE menu! This place feels like you are walking directly into the chefs home. The chef spends his time with each customer making sure they have what they need showing great care in creating the dishes! If you are from the US, do not plan on your traditional restaurant experience. Plan on Sunday lunch at your grandmothers house! Kick up your feet and stay a while. Every food item we had was perfect! I am not gluten free (my wife is) and our pasta dishes were the best I’ve had in my life! Whether you are gluten free or not, GO NOW! Don’t miss this off-the-beaten-path gem! Especially if you are already near the Vatican!

Owner invited us and treated us like family. Some of the best pasta I’ve had anywhere. Eggplant soft and tasty. Limoncello and espresso to enhance the strudel. Highly recommended. Everything Gluten Free!!!

We were a group of 8, and only one of us (my buddy) has gluten intolerance. Everyone went wild and ordered totally different stuff – all new dishes we’d never tried before. We were a tiny bit nervous, especially for the gluten-free part… but damn, the chef completely smashed it! Every single plate was straight-up delicious. The homemade wine? Surprisingly good too Massive shoutout to the kitchen crew – you guys killed it! This place is 100% worth checking out. We’re already planning round two!
